Research revealed that many Ugandan men avoided circumcision out of fear of pain and uncertainty about where to go, while women strongly supported it for hygiene and HIV prevention. QG Group developed the Stand Proud, Get Circumcised campaign to address these barriers and shift perceptions through a mix of radio, TV, outdoor, and print communication.
The campaign featured confident women declaring, “I’m proud of my circumcised husband; we’re safer from HIV.” This bold approach normalized the conversation, inspired dialogue, and removed stigma. Engagement soared — when radio host James Onen mentioned the campaign on Sanyu FM, phone lines were jammed with callers. Within three months, 15,000 men were circumcised, marking a powerful step toward better health outcomes and behavior change.
